Painting your one-story house

Basics

1. Clean the Exterior: Before starting to paint, it is important to thoroughly clean the exterior of your house. This can be done with a pressure washer or by hand using a scrubber and hose. Clean away any cobwebs, dirt, or loose paint chips.

2. Choose the Right Paint: Selecting the right paint is essential to ensure a high-quality finish and long-lasting results. Choose high-quality exterior paint that is durable and water-resistant.

3. Prepare the Surface: You should prepare the surface by removing any peeling or cracked paint, filling up any gaps or holes, and sanding smooth any rough patches.

4. Protect Surrounding Elements: Cover any bushes, plants, or outdoor furniture around the house to prevent paint splatters.

5. Paint the Trim First: Start with the trim, windows, and doors. Paint the trim with a brush, using a paint shield to keep the paint from splattering onto the wall.

6. Paint the Walls: Once the trim is dry, use a roller to paint the walls. Start at the top and work your way down, applying a consistent layer of paint.

7. Apply a Second Coat: Once the first coat is dry, apply a second coat of paint for a professional-looking finish.

8. Finishing Touches: After completing the painting, remove any tape applied and clean the brushes and rollers.

Note: For larger homes and multi-story houses, it may be best to hire a professional painting contractor to complete the job safely and efficiently.
